Smartboard needing connection wizard to run (Mac Mini through serial to USB converter

Afternoon gents,

 

I have an old style SMARTboard attached to a mac mini via serial to USB converter.

 

Each time the teacher logs on they have to open the connection wizard and connect (which works every time) but for some reason it isn't picking up on startup/login/

 

I have tried re-installing and ticking "automatically start up" but still it doesn't work..

 

any ideas??

could it be power saving on the usb?, also may need to set usb to fast, or high speed in bios?, worth a try

never gone into the bios on a mac....hmm
