hp laserjet P1606dn crashing print server

we have at least 7 hp laserjet P1606dn installed on our school network and have recently installed a print server the only printer we are having problems with is all the hp laserjet P1606dn we have downloaded the most up to date drivers from hp website and still no joy we would be very grateful if you could give any advice on how to stop hp laserjet P1606dn printers crashing the print-server

Having the same issue here, when we use the 1606 driver. If we use the HP Universal Driver, it seems to work fine, but there are some issues, biggest one being about half the time Excel will print gobble-dee-goop.

The current solution is using the universal driver until someone complains then fix their machine to use the 1606 driver, but even that's hit or miss on whether it crashes the spooler on the print server, and even the local machine.

 

Would love to hear if any one has found a solution yet.
