Little-Miss Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Ok, we're trialling Electronic Registration in the office so i we can see for ourselves how it works before we send it out to the staff. How does the link between the attendance register and the dinner register work? We found the tick box with links them, but this morning only 2 of the 3 registers we took picked up the absences. Thing is, in the front office the attendance officer started sorting the registers as she normally does and did the Ctrl+D or whatever it is to add the usual results in. Realising her error she closed the dinner register without saving it. But now when we check that register the result havent updated. So what should happen? How does the link work?
GeeHubb Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hello Little-Miss, We run attendance and dinner money from the school office (our teaching staff don't have access to SIMS). Classes return their manual registers for both attendance and DM to the office I enter the attendance marks from paper registers and my colleague at the next desk sorts out dinner registers. We find that I must be ahead of her so I enter the attendance marks (I do this via the Edit Marks option rather than Take Register) and save each register before she enters the dinner marks via the Dinner Money tab from Edit Marks. If the tick box to link Att and DM is 'ticked' the marks will pull through to DM dependant on what you have the default set to in Student Details (we only use PL for packed lunch or F for FSM). Any children having a School Meal (SM) are then edited. Children not present come through as 'AB' in the dinner register. The only slight hiccup we have had (and this is why I start off before her) is that if we are both working on the same class, it is possible for me to save attendance marks and overwrite her edited SM marks back to the default of PL, though we haven't managed to pin down what exactly causes this. If you do close a register without saving it, then obviously you will lose the marks, though I'm not sure I have quite grasped what you are saying. Don't forget for the marks to transfer into DM they have to be in Att first! Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if we can be of more help. Gill 1
Little-Miss Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 With regards to the saving, they were a little concerned that the issue was caused because she had been editing the DM at the same time and had somehow caused some confusion. But as she hadnt pressed save i cant see how this was the case. Tomorrow i shall make sure they dont touch the DM until the Att has been done. Thanks Gill
GeeHubb Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Just checked it out myself. You do need to have the default meal set up in student details, Panel 6 - dietary, in order for the meals to populate in the dinner register. 1
Little-Miss Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 This issue annoys me. I accidently saved a whole class as being absent! lol So i changed their marks to what they should have been, but then obviously the dinner register said they were all away. So i did the ctrl+D to update the list but that then didnt pick up the children who really were absent. There must be a way of refreshing the list or something....
GeeHubb Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Try this. Clear all the marks in DM (you can highlight the column and use the right mouse button and clear all I think). Clear all the marks in Att AND SAVE the cleared marks. Then input the new Att marks and save. This will bring the correct defaults back through to DM with the days absences. G 1
Sivadam Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) Gill is a superstar re. the 'extras' in Primary School SIMS software! Even though she says she isn't! I bet folk are glad she is now posting rather than being a 'lurker', as they describe 'voyeurs' here! See Gill! I knew you would join in eventually! I reckon you should get a few more 'Thanks' though! Just in case you join me if I have to 'mildly' criticise somebody! Edited March 11, 2011 by Sivadam

Sivadam Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Steady on Mike - I've only got the one green square! I can't afford to lose it yet! Exactly! You can help many, many people on here without your reputation changing one iota. Then make one comment that some other Users don't like and the green squares are stripped away if somebody 'reports' you! Not that I need 'reporting' because everything I say here is public! Personally, I do not sneak behind other users backs! Folk can't get their head around that one! I wonder what comments I'll get back now!
Sivadam Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Only me......stop moaning! I thought I was laughing!
