mark100 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hi we are looking to buy furniture to hold an computer linked to an IWB, Amp etc... any ideas where we could buy furniture? We've been using a normal table for a while but our H+S officers isn't happy with all the cables hanging around. Cheers
dhicks Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hi we are looking to buy furniture to hold an computer linked to an IWB, Amp etc... Would it be pretty much just as cheap to buy a new computer and amp? A VESA-mountable Acer is around £200, and you can get small in-line amps with enough oompf for a classroom (not sure on price for those).
tom_pearson Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Totally agree with dhicks. You would have to get custom built furniture that could cost a lot, or at least I couldn't find anything of a reasonable price when I was investigating this kind of thing. We ended up just using small desks. I've got into the habit of using lot's of cable ties and cable wrap to strap cables/accessories to the desk in order to reduce the amount of visible "stuff".
mark100 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Cheers, yeah for custom made ones we were looking at £200-£300. Will look into cable management. Might try and get a trip to Ikea out of it for research purposes

Might try and get a trip to Ikea out of it for research purposes It's actually easier to make a table than you might think, assuming you have the right tools and material to hand, a bit of elbow room and enough time - maybe a job for half-term? Check your Ikea (or other flat-pack provider) item before you plan to do any modification to it to fit your exact needs - especially with their tables, some of the solid-looking items are actually hollow or made from corrogated cardboard. Nothing wrong with that, but something to bear in mind before you plan to go trimming a table top down or taking a chunk out to fit a corner or something.
Exos Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 British Thornton ESF Ltd Probably something near the trunking for the IWB (http://purchasing.uk-plc.net/websites/product.aspx?CompanyID=226094&lngProductID=713059)
gshaw Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 We've used a company called Witley Jones to custom-build some cupboards for our Smartboard PC kit, they do it all through CAD so pretty much any design you want and prices are pretty good as well. http://www.witleyjones.com/
laserblazer Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 This is the amp we tend to use, small and reliable with plenty of oomph for a classroom. QTX SOUND|KA-2 SILVER|AMPLIFIER, STEREO KARAOKE | CPC
