O-oh .. BSOD on Server ..

Ok, so I've upgraded Papercut NG to MF today and the latest version, and thought right, it's a good time to restart the servers as county tech's had put on a policy server and stuff (I was off ill, so they sorted it for some new WAPS).

 

Anywho, the server is BSOD-ing on boot .. I get something about the portmap.sys failing (I will attempt to get full information).

 

I tried to Safe Mode it to check any issues, but that just restarts without a BSOD.

 

I don't suppose anyone has a bright spark idea in the meantime whilst I try to get some more info.

 

I have a second server, but with disk space being an issue, the staff and student files aren't DFS'd ..

is it a pdc or bdc?

 

in safe mode disable the portmap starting,

 

copy portmap.sys from another computer, check its version / size

Hiya

 

It's a BDC. Unfortunately, I can't log in even when I boot in safemode as the darn thing just restarts after about 10 seconds of being on the CTRL+ALT+DEL (or I might just get a C+A+D in before it reboots)

 

Just running a memory test at the moment to check there's nothing in that. See what happens, but in the mean time leave an apologetic note for the staff briefing in the morning me thinks!

 

 

Ooo .. meant to say, before I dug the disk out to run the mem test (the 2008 R2 install disc that is) I had a different BSOd (attached)

Well, at 2:10 this morning the server sprung back into life after I got e-mails from the UPS every 15 minutes or so from leaving work until that point! So for now, it's back up. Guess what my jobs going to be over half term (or sooner if I can as I can't risk it falling over fully!)
