bmittleider Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 For our students I have set the GPO "Hide the notification area" as Enabled. This works great except I would like to still show the Volume control and Networking icon. Even if I set the values of "Remove networking icon" and "Remove the volume control icon" to Disabled, "Hide the notification area" overrides the setting and does not show these icons. Is there any way to accomplish hiding all icons in the notification area but leave the Volume control and networking icon without using "Hide the notification area" policy?
ful56_uk Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 For our students i have hidden everything in the control panel apart from the sound just allowed that in there
TheScarfedOne Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I would go with the above, disable notification tray, but enable the "Show only specified control panel applets" GP to give the options you want (eg sound etc)
bmittleider Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks. It looks like that is about the only option. I hope to someday be able to do this. At least coming from XP to 7 there is a better defined list of things that can be enabled and disabled. Just seems to me a long way around to have to go to the menu->control panel->sound options just to adjust the volume.
