Cakewalk home studio 7 and roaming profiles

Morning all,

 

Our music dept uses Home Studio 7 by Cakewalk. Every time one of our students uses this software, it stores about 1.2GB of samples in their profiles.

 

Does anyone know how to stop this happening. the backups are going up at an exponential rate because they are all using it.

Music software is notorious for doing silly things. A potential problem with changing to a local and/or shared location is if Cakewalk stores the user editted samples in the same place redirection will mean pupils wont be able to change machines, and the samples could be lost if the machine dies or if another user edits the same sample. I havn't used Cakewalk in a network environment so I have no idea but watch out for this.

 

Have a look in the registry / config files and see if you can change the path.

 

If all else fails you could set up a GPO so that when the the pupils log onto those computers it redirects %AppData% to the local PC, either the users documents and settings or, probably better if you have lots of users, to the all users docs and settings.

 

Junction points could also be useful but probably overkill tbh.
