VPN over Cachepilot

Hi Guys,

 

I am trying to set up a VPN between two schools, I have a VPN Linux Box on both networks but the problem I've got is both schools use Cachepilot's to connect to the internet. The Cachepilot's wont allow me to open the ports via the web interface for the VPN, I guess Equiinet want you to upgrade to their Netpilot if you require VPN facilites. We payed £2000 for these cachepilot's as recommended by our LEA for something the is basically a linux box running squid, so ideally I need to keep these boxes.

 

I was wondering if anyone knew of way to get round this problem.

The cache pilots just work as http proxies here. I can simply bypass them if I wish. Are your setup to do nat translation?

at the CLEO meeting I was at yesterday, they were renamed CrashPilots!

Oddly, the only problems with them I've had is with them not turning back on after power cuts (stupid rocker switch, fs!) and Westfield taking ages to change their settings and get them updating after an ISDN to Broadband upgrade.

I had to completely rebuild my network after the jerk who installed it had finished.

 

He was supposed to have come before lunch, turned up @ 7:30 in the evening. I live close by, so I let him in.

 

Came in on Monday morning, he'd disabled DHCP, and reconfigured the routers single NIC (don't ask... used to be a Viglen system), so that it was on his IP range. Trouble was, he'd got the wrong IP for the crashpilot anyway, and messed about with the patch leads in the comms cabinet.

 

3 days where there was no ICT teaching, and a week without internet! I think I lost a stone in weight!

Yes, ours are set up to do nat translation & we have to use it as our gateway to the net. To top it off, our LEA have installed their own customized firmware on there. FFS!
