Dzsjohn Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi Guys, Looking for a heads up from anybody who may have deployed Ruckus in a particularly dense user environment. Looking at a scenario where numerous classrooms with approx 30 students per class are logging onto the WLAN simultaneously... anybody out there with this kind of set-up...? Cheers, John
SimpleSi Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I've got one primary school with 40 netbooks where a whole 30 pupil class logon at same time and that's not 100% reliable even with an AP in the same room- usually 2 or 3 will fail and require a reboot. regards Simon
Dos_Box Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 TBH, one Ruckus access point should be able to handle that level of traffic fine, unless you are downloading huge profiles at each logon. If you can give us a bit more info on the traffic levels you are expecting to generate it would help greatly.

SimpleSi Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Wasn't that problem more related to the netbooks wireless LAN adaptor rather than the Ruckus Si? My Samsung N130s are much worse than my NC10s but I've seen NC10s not connecting either I think the laws of physics with 30 machines trying to connect simultaneously through one 54Mbs AP with large profiles/logon scripts is going to always going to cause issues. If the Ruckus ZD is doing its job and distributing clients between more APs then life's going to get better but my experience is that the clients will attach to the nearest AP if possible. regards Simon

Student profiles are approx 2Mb in size approx 30 users per class on average... Cheers,
