OS X Tiger 10.4.11 AD integration query

Hi

I'm looking to bind our Mac OS X 10.4.11 Server to active directory for logon authentication. I have been told this Server OS has a limit to the amount of AD users it can import, this limit being 1000.

I was under the impression this limit was set by the Windows server LDAP limit which can be increased by using the ntdsutil tool.

Our AD contains around 3500 users who may, potentially, require logon access to our expanding Mac colony. I would like to install the server OS on a test machine just to see the binding results but, unfortunately, have misplaced the server install disk.

Can anyone clarify?

@DMcCoy Are you using Tiger?

10.5, but I believe it worked on 10.4 as I had over 1000 users a long time ago. 10.4 non server should behave in the same way as there's nothing special about 10.4 server for directory binding.

When binding OS X 10.4 to Ad domains there are a few gotchas. The main one is, unlike the newer versions, you have to bind to the AD first using the Dir util and then promote to OD Master using Server Admin. I think this is correct. You may wish to read up on the process if you haven't already as it rather different to the current versions (10.5 and 10.6) It is a little more trickier to set up and get working. I may have a tiger guide if you are interested.
