Moving sims from 32bit to 64bit server

Hello guys

 

I need to move sims from 32bit install to a 64bit while also doing a SQL upgrade to 2008 (not r2).

 

Is it better to do the sql 2008 upgrade on the 32 bit server first then move sims to it's new server 2008 64bit or do everything on the 64bit box?

 

Also can anyone advise me on the steps I need to take in order to move sims to it's new home without breaking anything please

We rebuilt our server for the new version of SQL to try and clear out some of the accumulated crud and was advised to upgrade first. Take backups then wipe the server then install SQL 2008. Otherwise you would have to install 2005 and then upgrade to 2008, leaving a lot of the 2005 cruft there.

once upgraded you can just use dbattach to detach from one, and then attach it to the new one.

you need to run basic SIMS set up first, so it's got the core files and folders in place.

you'll also need to copy over the document management server, and if the new server is differently named, tell sims, and configure it to see the new folder.

obviously back up lots.

if you search, the threads there are a quite a few that deal with setting up a new server.

thanks guys, ill think i do the upgrade then move it across to the new server, is there anything that wont work on server 64bit with sims?

so if i move sims over to 63bit nova t wont work at all even on client side? which are 32bit

Clients (assuming they are 32bit) will be fine, Nova-T4 won't run on 64bit. You might have trouble running FMS (on x64) and the personnel, but it'll work.
