SIMS 2010 Autumn Pre-Release Note

 

 

Dear Colleagues,

 

The SIMS 2010 Autumn Pre-Release document is now available in the SIMS Releases section of Support Net (Resource 17227). This document contains the scope of the SIMS Autumn 2010 Release and it will be updated with any further functional changes over time

 

 

This release contains updates to Statutory Returns for the following school sectors:-

English Maintained Schools – School Census Spring 2011 and Pupil Referrel Unit Census 2011

Welsh Maintained Schools - PLASC 2011

Independent Schools – Annual School Census for Independent Schools 2011 (ASCIS) and Independent Schools Council Census 2011 (ISCIS)

Catholic Schools - the Catholic Education Service for England and Wales 2011 Census

 

Enhancements have also been made to Attendance, Behaviour, Common Transfer File (CTF), Fees, InTouch, Partnership Xchange, Registrations and Admissions and SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG)

 

FMS has enhancements to support government supplier portals, a new report detailing suppliers with whom a school has traded with.

Released alongside SIMS 2010 Autumn release is the new SOLUS3 deployment software. Downloaded and applied seperately to the release it enables automatic deployment of SIMS updates around a School and Local Authority.

 

Further Technical enhancements include the support of Windows 7 64 bit for the SIMS and FMS client software.

The release contains the new Discover software on limited release to Field Trial participants. This powerful visual analysis tool uses an intuitive graphical interface enabling users to easily analyse data and is planned for full release in Spring 2011.

Important note – this release is compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008/SQL Express 2008 only. SQL Server 2005/2000/MSDE are no longer supported and the software has not been tested against these.

This release is planned to be made available before COB on Friday the 19th of November.

Notice that there is still no reference to support for SQL Server 2008 R2!

 

We are only just trying the SOLUS3 install later today. One wonders if this Trial will throw a spanner in the works for the COB Release date!

Office 2010 is due to be supported from Spring 2011!

 

'KB96979 - Do Capita support Windows Server 2008 R2?' tells us that:-

'We (Capita) will be supporting Server 2008 R2 domain and forest functionality from the Summer 2010 release.'

 

I assume that this has happened - it doesn't mention it in the Summer Release notes even though the KB does say to check that document!

We hit a snag!

You have to use Windows Authentication rather than SQL Authentication!

Uninstalling and starting again soon!

Ah, you can use SQL authentication, it's just that one blasted installer (the ui?) that needs it, ended up adding bulletin\administrators into SQL. Still SOLUS3 uses Windows authenticiation, so that's two helpdesk calls for Capita before you even start using it!

Funny, had a would with Jon about the SIMS2008 compatibility.

 

SIMS2005 isn't supported, but it should work by the sounds of it. They haven't added something to forcably stop it (yet).

 

Bit I was refering to was Nova-T4 being supported and so will be SIMS client 64bit. The two do not work together.

 

And yes, just SOLUS3.
