MacBook Pro - Network Problems - Eth & Airport

Afternoon all

 

Right, I have a MacBookPro that I use (as it's mine) for general stuff in work, but it doesn't like the internet connection at all.

 

Basically, it's very hit and miss as to whether it likes to get a webpage or whether it wants to hang when accessing. At first I though "ok, it's the Wireless" so I ran a cable out from a spare point and connected via LAN instead, but I still get the same issue.

 

Network is a 2008R2 Backbone which dishes up the DHCP and all the usual jazz. I have put in the Proxy Settings direct on the Mac as it doesn't like picking up the WPAD setting from DHCP.

 

MacBook Pro is a 15" UniBody (the lovely i7) running Snow Leopard - fully updated and isn't connected to the AD.

 

Any suggestions?

What about your proxy? What is it? How does it authenticate?

 

Can you ping it and not drop packets etc?

The proxy is the county one (proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk on port 8080) with no authentication required ..

 

I can ping proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk with no issues ..

 

if I do a port scan I can see that 8080 is set as an open TCP Port http-alt
