XP Mode

We're are needing to setup an environment where a small number of students have a PC they have admin access on with Visual Studio (VBasic) 2008 Express installed.

 

We thought about using the XP Mode functionality, as we're on Win7 here, but are total novices with VMs. So we're wondering:

 

1) If we can create a master vhd and then copy it to the remaining other PCs to save us having to configure XP Mode image on every PC and if we can how do we do it.

 

2) What security considerations there might be.

 

3) If this is even an appropriate way to achieve what we're trying to do.

Rather than installing VM's locally on each machine which will be a pain from a management point of view, if you have a spare machine free you can download the free version of VmWare ESXi and install a bunch of virtual machines on that.

 

You can then either install the vmclient on each machine or just turn on remote desktop in each virtual machine and let them use that.
