Reinstall Windows?

I'm having some peculiar problems with some apps (X1 stopped working, for example, despite repeated reinstalls). I'm thinking about reinstalling XP.

 

I'm thinking I remember hearing that folks recommend the reinstallation of the OS every so often (mine was installed in 2007) to get a clean registry and remove temp files and other crap. Anyone have an informed opinion? Is there a lower-effort way to get a clean computer?

It may well be worth a reinstall, there is not really an easier way of getting a completely clean computer. The best way to get the fastest, freshest copy of windows XP on your PC is to reinstall off a slipstreamed Windows XP SP3 disk. This will install it with the first three service packs included from the start so there is far less old stuff hanging around. If you don't have a slipstreamed disk you can make one:

Try using CCleaner to de-clutter your PC and registry. It's pretty dammed good (Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!).

SYNACK Has the right idea reinstall XP with a SP3 disc, Will have everything nice and clean for you and like new Just remember to take a full copy of the drivers if you dont have the discs to hand! Otherwise the install process could take allot longer than you planned!
