brand new HP 5310M

ive just installed windows xp to a HP 5310m. the install seems to have gone OK however im now getting an error message saying

 

windows could not start becasue of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.

could not read from the selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware.

please chech windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

 

this laptop originally came with windows 7 pro.

 

any thoughts would be graitfull
