File and Print Sharing Issue

Hi guys,

 

I've had the 'File and Print Sharing Exception' Enabled for the local Subnet since I set up the Windows Firewall settings in my GPO's when we installed SP2 on XP.

 

Over the last week (since I authorised a few updates in WSUS) a strange and odd thing has happened, basically group policy says yes, but the computers say no!

 

Logging in as the local admin or domain admin shows me that GP is controlling windows firewall, and the File and print sharing box also says that it is controlled by GPO, the problem is that it is greyout out and not ticked.

 

It's not the AV doing this, as I have a freshly built machine here without any on which is still doing it once GP's have been refreshed.

 

I've rebuilt the GPO with no luck, although the problem does seem to be with windows firewall as when you turn it off it works fine (Not an option though)

have you tried a gpresult to see what settings are being applied?

I had - and the result was correct. what I hadn't done though is check that I had correctly spelt 'localsubnet'............

 

I've spent half a day staring at that! - A corrupt GPO was to blame originally then, followed by my lack of spelling!
