Dos_Box Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I've just upgraded to EM2 and deleted all of my local Sophos install (EM 1.0, Library, Sophos AV etc). It all went swimmingly, apart from re-installing Sophos back to the server. I have follwed the advice on Sophos about stopping the auto update service and re-trying but this does not work. All I get is the Sophos auto update part of the install and nothing else. Any help?
buzzard Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I had that, had to remove everthing, it then wouldn't remove the sophos management service, had to do that manually, then reinstall, also needed to reinstall ms.net, then it would work.
bishopsgarthstockton Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 We had sophos here, it never worked properly. The management console was rubbish. Our local authority switched to NOD32. We installed that and haven’t looked back, fantastic
Guest Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Got the same problem here. Working on all workstations except the server. Always bombs on RMS with MSI errors. ...Goes off to try reinstalling MS.net

DeltaBloke Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 another thing.. Had a real headache trying to upgrade Sophos, EM seemed to instal fine but I couldnt roll out the client package. After hacking about with reinstals as per instructions I ended up with a situation where my clients are all stand-alone s/w getting upgrades from the LEA site and the EM sits there looking very sick and uncooperative. My problem with the client machines is that despite being rolled out by EM the client s/w would not then be able to connect to EM to look for updates, the instal would fail and then be halfheartedly deinstalled. I have a nagging feeling that the root of my problem was that Sophos use an older version of the SQL engine that is currently installed on my server (which is also used for windows updates). anyone know how to fix this problems?
Ric_ Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 My problem with the upgrade was with MSDE... kept failing on that part of the install. I installed SQL 2005 Express first and used that instead. Been as stable as a pub table with a couple of mats under one leg since then.
Dos_Box Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 I talked to the lovely guys at Sophos (always helpful) and it turns out that when you uninstall a previous Sophos AV install it leaves behind a little text file called SophosReboot (or similar) in a temp folder which should be in the user profile temp area. Someimes this documnet is left behind preventing a new install from completeting. It turnde out that mine was in my \WINNT\Temp folder. Once deleted all was fine.
