Automated Scanning

I have loads of developed pictures at home from when i was a child which i would like to Scan in and put along side my digital library.

 

Does anyone know of a Automated process which could aid me with this.

 

I know photoshop has an automated process which lets you scan in four pictures 4 at a time then it crops them for you ready to save. Just wondering if anyone else has some good ideas or easier steps which could aid me in this.

Some flatbed scanners have photo feeds on them. I used to have one at a previous job for when we decided to start archiving old photos. Ok, it didn't do large photos automatically, but it did the smaller ones fine.

 

It was something like the HP Scanjet 5530 (that might be a newer one as I've just done a quick search).

 

To be honest, I've always found just using a scanner and putting the photos on is the best way of doing it, depending on what your usage is going to be of them. i.e. If they are to be used in some sort of printing process (we've just scanned a load of student photos for a year book I'm producing) then you're better flat bedding them individually, but if it's just for old times sake and shoving on Facebook to immortally embarrass yourself, then batch scanning will be fine.

The problem there is that the photos could often trap in the copier ADF if they are only small ones (I know this from experience) unless they are the larger photos that the ADPs are more designed to handling.

 

If the copier has more of a direct feed through ADP rather than one of those that doubles the thing back on itself to scan then you're likely to have more luck.

I have been playing around with the windows Fax and Scan This seems to do a quick little job !

If you're just wanting to quickly scan the things in for reference, then Irfanview is a good little program too (IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide) for scanning and cropping etc.
