dhoward_westexetc Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I have tried IE 8 on one of our XP student machines and it generally works fine. However, because we do not have Windows Search 4 (student machines don't need it) we keep getting a banner saying "download Windows Search 4 for faster searching of history and favorites". Has anyone managed to suppress this little message from appearing (preferably by GPO)? I tried disabling the Windows search URL policy, but this makes no difference. I have put in an Impero block to the KB article it links to, but I naturally prefer if this message did not show up at all !
Arthur Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Setting the registry value below will remove the message completely... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\WindowsSearch] "ShowPrompt"=dword:00000000 1
