will_ Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Just as the title says, really. I keep hearing about Dell Premier accounts and have found a lot of bumpf on their website saying how wonderful it is, but no Apply or Register button anywhere. Is there a secret handshake?
Soulfish Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Well I phoned up the Dell Secondary Education Sales team (01344 373 716) and asked for one. Of course it took me a while to actually get that number, and I've just found out that my account manager left a few weeks ago but wasn't told until I went to ask where an order was 1
Arthur Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 The quickest way to get one setup would be to e-mail or call Dell. I think David Haughey is the person you need to contact if you work in education. We get "Pro5" special pricing, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Interestingly I've managed to end up with two premier accounts (having changed account managers twice), and with one account we get charged £25/item for delivery, the other delivery is free! Other than that the pricing is the same for both accounts - I do occasionally check
Arthur Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 It's funny you should mention that as we have two premier accounts too. However, the prices do differ quite a bit between them (sometimes by > £100) so I just have to remember to use the Pro5 one as it's the cheapest.

I'd want to install Ubuntu Linux on it and generally mess with the configuration of everything. Would that be okay? I'm awaiting replies from a number of other suppliers, too, but this will definitely score you brownie points.

GrumbleDook Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 IME if you are having problems with internal account managers changing around, or the Premiere Account isn't giving you consistent pricing, then inviting your external Dell rep down for a chat is the best way of sorting it. If you can arrange for other local schools to be available at the same time then the purchasing power increases and you can get even better deals.
