Installing Handycam software onto network - site licence required?

What it says on the tin, really. My school has acquired a Sony Handycam (DCR-SR290E), and the manual says the @ the "Handycam" software needs to be installed before we can upload video from it. However, our tech support guys understandably want to see a site licence before its installed. Do we need one? How do we acquire one if required?
