IE7 and IE8 compatibility sucks! why wont...

I setup a basic table with two rows with background colour etc it looks great in FF and IE8 with compatability off, but it looks awfull in ie7 and ie8 compat.

 

can anyone point me in the right direction for styling a table so its compatible with IE.

use CSS to style it if you dont know how i can post some code, but its recommended to use CSS.
