azrael78 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I've been advised to look into learning ASP.Net and SQL (Both Server and Language) to diversify my skillset for future employment. I have only basic SQL experience (I can install it and configure it) but that's about it. So my question is - where do I start? Are there any good books or websites I could look at for tutorials in ASP.Net and SQL? Thanks, Az
Flakes Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 well the first thing that pops to mind is to use ISA on a windows 2003 server(i think you can get ISA for XP aswell) this supports SQL and ASP. heres some ASP tutorials: ASP Tutorial - Introduction i have a great site i used for learning how to connect and asp page to a Database however the link is on my work computer and i cant find the site atm lol.
azrael78 Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Why would I want/need an ISA Server to learn SQL/ASP.Net? I understand that they do support SQL but I wasn't aware about ASP - I thought ISA was a firewall application - not a web-based application or am I thinking of something else? Az Edit: It just came to me that you probably meant IIS - which IS a webserver, not ISA which is a firewall
Flakes Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 sorry your right i meant IIS im just getting my terminology mixed today :S, this looks like it would work for what you want: How to connect to MS SQL Server database from ASP? - ASPdev.org edit tizag has a tutorial on how to set it up for XP http://www.tizag.com/aspTutorial/aspSetup.php
