Win 7 - Redirect start menu via Logon Script

Hi Guys,

 

I've been playing with Win 7 and have been testing on our Domain.

 

On our current XP setup, the logon script reads a registry key that contains the room name the machine is in.

 

Then the start menu location key is changed to a shared folder on the server with the menu for that room.

 

Windows 7 - Seems to have changed the registry location this info is held.

 

Has anyone found a way to redirect the start menu in windows 7 from logon script?

 

I've tried in a few places, but the menu still appears blank when out test account logs on.

Wy a logon script when you can now use gpp?

probably because that's the way it's always been done! Bit of a long way round I agree!

 

I'm currently running a 2003R2 domain which doesn't help.

Once I'm happy that all apps etc run on 7, I'll look at upgrading servers to 2008

GPP is fine on 2003 Domain controllers, just install the update and acPO from a Win7 machines you can create per room and/ or per user. I had similar setup and moved to gpp, alot easier

Right - I've got the menus to redirect how I want them.

 

The problem now is that when a change is made to the network shared menu, the Start menu doesn't update dynamically. the user must log off and back on before the changes are made.

Any Ideas how to get around this one?

I've got a feeling win7 must cache the menu somewhere (user profile?). On XP this would update instantly...
