Remove an MSI without uninstalling

We have a package installed by MSI via a GPO, can I remove the package from the GPO without it then uninstalling itself automatically because I have removed it from the GPO? We used to have it installed via GPO but now its part of the default image so don't need it to be in the GPO anymore.

When you remove the msi from the GPO you should be asked whether you want to uninstall from clients or not (certainly in Group Policy Manager snap-in).
