simpsond Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I have installed ESXi on a Dell server. The server has 420GB of drive space in a RAID5 array with 6 drives (72GB each). I understand that RAID 5 discounts one drive for spare so that leaves 5 drives (approx) worth of space available to the OS (about 350GB). Now, for the problem. I have two virtual machines set up on there, each of which has a 60GB VHD. That adds up to 120GB, so in theory, I should still have 230GB, minus the overhead of ESXi itself but according to the manager, I only have 14GB of space free. How can I get to the rest of this drive? I need to set up a third virtual server on there and had intended to use the remaining space for it. 14GB isn't enough and I need the rest of the drive. What can I do? Thanks Doug
Ric_ Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 If you could post a screenshot of the datastore details, we may be able to spot something. Also, have you got any snapshots? 1
simpsond Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 I can get snapshots and etc of the system, and all otehr functions work as expected, I just can't find that other 200+GB of drive space. I did have the third virtual machine on there at one time, but deleted it from the manager so I am wondering of it just didn't delete that third VM's VHD when I deleted the VM. . . I can't figure out how to get into the datastores directly to see if it just didn't remove the VHD. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to insert a screenshot here. . . Seems there is no provision in the version I have or something that will allow me to look in the datastore for the VHD files. Any other ideas? Thanks!
simpsond Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Thanks to those who replied. . . I went ahead and re-set up the VM and told it to use an existing VHD and browsed for it and found the VHD that I had configured before, containing the 200GB os space I was looking for! Thanks again for all the replies! Wonderful forum! Doug
Ric_ Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 On the overview (?) screen you can click on the datastore and manage the files on there.
