gibbo_ap Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 i really need to reboot one of our servers! explorer.exe has crashed and as im using the remotedesktops mmc i cant load taskmanager - or anything. this server has no users on now (except guest users and random others - no staff/students) but it does have print audit which im trying to configue meh may just give it a hard reboot. what do u lot do when you cba wait till the end of the day as work on that server is 'todays job' and other jobs are dependant on this ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
CyberNerd Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 hard reboot, hope for the best, then build a new one from scratch so it doesn't happen again
sted Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 reboot at break/dinner if at all possible. So far today at the school im in ive rebooted the only server about 4 times (had issues mainly wsus logs filling up the c drive requiring a temp shift of pagefile then shifting it back dns deciding to croak been a fun day) would a remote shutdown command work? shutdown -m \\server
penfold Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 If it needs a reboot then reboot it. Do as much as you can to ensure users don't get interrupted(at break or lunch if it can wait - or try to inform them if not), but these things happen. No system is 100% and as long as it doesn't happen all the time don't worry about it. As the other say if it needs rebooting regularly then you may have a bigger problem anyway:p
