DrCheese Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Just an FYI that Backup exec 2010 has been released, this version allows installation of the media server role on 2008 R2 and will backup exchange 2010. If you have maintenance you can upgrade your keys from today. 3
zag Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Good stuff, I'm still wondering whether to upgrade to this or choose Microsoft System Data Protection manager I like backupexec, but the Microsoft beta for 2010 version is looking very good.
DMcCoy Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Non stupid VMware backups 12.5 uses VCB to export the vmdk to a temporary folder. This is then copied into the backup, meaning it takes twice as long as it needs to. 2010 uses the VMware storage APIs so should export directly to the disk backup. Add the (cheap-ish) option for de-dupe on the media server and I might finally have some VM image backup software I'm happy with. Replacing old blades with newer servers freed up a couple of fibre ports on the SAN switch so I can do direct to SAN now too

Does MSDPM now supprt 2008 file servers as 2007 didn't? Looking to upgrade through to EXEC 2010 as i am getting free upgrade - using VMWare so will let you know how quick the VMDK's backup.
