CyberNerd Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I've used it and recommend, Redhat have been in the virtualisation market for a long time now. Originally based on Xen (that Citrix bought) they now use KVM. To get the best of Redhat virtualisation, you really need your filesystems setup with Global Filesystem to allow multiple systems simultaneous read/write - and this really needs Redhat Advanced server - so if you want support there is a substantial price hike.(educational RHEL is £35 per server, but advanced is £1500 per server) otherwise look at Centos, a rebuild of RHEL/AS

Isn't KVM part of all Linux kernels from v2.6.20 onwards so technically you could use any recent Linux-based operating system and they would all have the full set of virtualization features built-in by default. From a support perspective though, RHEL might be the best choice since Redhat acquired the company behind KVM (Qumranet) in 2008. KVM definitely sounds really cool going by the few articles I have read so far. Even cooler still is Qumranet's Solid ICE desktop virtualization/VDI solution. This demo video shows it in action.
