IT_Man_Dan Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I'm new to SIMS profiles and have just made a massive mess up. I'm now at the stage where the comments have been completed for all year 11 students and they need to be checked / edited before printing and sending to students. I now realise that I should of locked the session and left it as active to complete the editing and checking process. Unfortunately I wasn't with it yesterday and changed the session to review mode (which I'm told is unreversible) thinking that was the correct way to do it. That has of course made it so that the reports can no longer be edited meaning any errors will remain there. Apart from bringing back the entire database from Sunday's backup is there anything I can do to undo my error or am I up the creek without a paddle? Any help much appreciated. Dan
Sivadam Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) The idea of Review Mode is that all the Profiles reports can be checked, approved or rejected by Senior Staff. If you reject the report (un-approve it!), or a section of it, then it automatically becomes available again for the class teacher to edit it. In other words you can make eveything available again should you so wish! How were you going to check them anyway? Using Review Mode is the most efficient way of doing this - once you get your head around how it works. One member of our LT checks all the Reports for a single Reg Group. It is possible for HODs to check their departments (assuming these are set up in Course Manager). HOYs and other Pastoral Staff can check their years (assuming they are set up in Pastoral Management) etc etc etc. Unfortunately the Review Mode is not available via SLG yet! IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Good morning, Thanks for replying to my post on here and SupportNet, The way we check our student reports is: 1. Heads of Departments 2. then they'll be checked by SLT Can you explain to me how HOD's just check their departments reports please as when I log in (system Manager rights) and click Focus> Profiles> Review Profiles I just see all of the students in that year and have the option to read and approve them all. Is there a way that you can select certain classes to be able to review just your departments? Thanks in advance for your help. Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 You no doubt have full rights to Profiles7 and so can see all the Reports in Review Mode. If HODs have been set up under Course Manager and the Profiles Comment/Banks & Session are linked to the Courses (which they have to be to get the classes) then a HOD can see the reports under the Review Mode automatically. Your SLT will also be able to see ALL the Profiles Reports. 1
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Hi, I'm guessing that HOD's haven't been setup under course manager because when I just got a HOD to login to SIMS on my computer they didn't even have the Revie profiles option? What do I need to do to get this enabled? Thanks Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) Tools, Academic Management, Course Manager, Maintain Course. Search for the Courses. Double click a Course. In Panel 4 Add a Supervisor as a HOD via New. This all depends on whether your courses are also set up correctly! I would prefer to continue this via SupportNet if at all possible. That is the real place to discuss SIMS issues so that other users may benefit. Edited January 14, 2010 by Sivadam 1
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Thanks, Just looked in there, All courses are inactive???!!! Is this correct??? Argghh this is doing my head in. I really appreciate your help and patience. Regards Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 The Timetabler should have set up the Levels in NT6. When the Timetable is sent to SQL it automatically sets up the courses. This probably has not been done. You can Activate the courses again from within Course Manager.
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Cool thanks, So I just go through course manager and activate all the courses? will this have any consequences or cause any differences in SIMS anywhere? Also, Does it matter if I activate a course that isn't actually used? Thanks Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 If it isn't used then don't reactivate it. If you have courses missing then you can add them in. For the future you really need the Timetabler to ensure that Levels are attached in NT6!
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 I've spoken to the timetabler and she reckons she did assign levels etc in Nova 6? Is there a simple way to activate all courses using nova 6 and send it to sims? Thanks
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 They will have to be done via Course Manager now!
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Ok, Right I've now gone through all of the courses and checked that the correct ones are active and I've assigned supervisor rights for HOD's and HOF's. However, When a HOD logs into sims they still don't get Review profiles option? Do I need to update course memberships or anything like that? Many thanks Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 It won't harm to Update Course memberships anyway ..... ...... but I bet that when they log in tomorrow that the Revue will be active for them! 1
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) Can other Edugeek Users please note that I will not be offering this level of support through Edugeek again. That is reserved for SupportNet! This is a one-off! Edited January 19, 2010 by witch We do not appreciate being shouted at!
IT_Man_Dan Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Thank you very very much for your help mate I really appreciate it. Cheers Dan
Sivadam Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) No Problem Dan. Glad to help! I just hope that there is no other problem on your network/setups to make me lose my bet! Edited January 14, 2010 by Sivadam
