Smoothwall - ESX 4 VMTools?

I just upgraded my server to ESX 4 from ESX 3.5. With ESX 4 there is of course a whole new set of VMTools. On my Windows based servers I could swear I see a performance bump since ESX 4 and the new drivers.

 

My Network Guardian is running on VMWare and has always shown the "VMware guest supporting server" as green which I assume is the Smoothwall version of the VMTools.

 

Can and/or should the VMTools be upgraded on the Network Guardian box? Would there be any benefit or should I just leave what is working alone?

 

Directions for making the change are fairly well documented on the Smoothwall Express forums. I don't want to screw up anything Smoothwall maintains on their paid Smoothwalls and I don't know how much the Express deviates from the real Smoothwall version.

We'll have a look and see what's different in the Linux versions of these drivers. Mostly I think the v4 tools are to support the new hardware spec, mainly with regards to graphics, sound, mouse etc. - which are irrelevant on the Smoothie. But certainly the disk and network drivers are worth a look, so we'll keep you posted.
