FN-GM Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Stupid students! - Teens Recreate TV Drama By Downing Ethanol - Yahoo! News UK If on TV they where taken to hospital why did they do it in real life?
synaesthesia Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Absolutely stupid, and if they were a little older I'd have had no hesitation in hoping they suffered serious problems in doing so. However, being of that age, it's a matter of the lack of discipline in modern times and just kids being kids. I would like to know how the media/anyone knew they copied it from Waterloo Road. Did they confess to that? If so, it's well deserved. Who's to say it wasn't just coincidence.
srochford Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 The ethanol that you would use in most schools is not pure - it's typically got benzene in it (because you can't get pure alcohol by distilling it from an alcohol/water mixture so you add benzene) and might have methanol added (you can then avoid paying excise duty). this then makes it a pretty hazardous cocktail - as a one off it won't do much harm but if you thought you could use it as cheap booze on a regular basis then you'd be on dodgy ground!!

I don't pay duty on mine - but you do have to apply to Customs & Excise first (for school use only). I always tell the kids it will make them go blind, stops them being tempted to take a swig! If only I could get my personal supplies duty free...
deanc Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I'm sure that the first time ethanol was used in science (year 7 or 8) we were told not to drink it as it contained benzine which was likely to make us go blind and make our stomachs bleed are science teachers afraid to upset the little darlings now! never underestimate the power that fear has over children
RabbieBurns Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 i used to get blind drunk off ethenol 1
