reggiep Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Hi All, I'm in the middle of trying to install GLPI on a linux box that I have with a website already running on it. Could someone tell me what i need to do to add my second site to the box? I guess I have to edit my hosts file but not sure how! I have dropped all the files into /var/www/hardware but when I browse to http://ipadress/hardware nothing happens. Why am I being a doofus here?
kmount Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Hi reggiep, Two ways of looking at this; you should be able to use it as you're doing via http://ip/hardware (assuming it's extracted there and not /var/www/hardware/blah) as long as the defaultroot is set to /var/www. Or you can look at vhosts which make it a bit tidier as you can use a sub/domain eg helpdesk.yourdomain.com and vle.yourdomain.com both pointing to completely different places. 1
reggiep Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 I think that is where my problem is. My default website is set /var/www/mahara so not sure how to work round that!
kmount Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Ah, yeah, in that case either move hardware under mahara, or we can look at vhosting if I get you some examples?
reggiep Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 I'll go for the easy fix and drop it into mahara!
kmount Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Cool, have fun. If you do want to look at vhosts another time just drop me a line.
RabbieBurns Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 vhosts in apache is pretty straight forward.. in fact its now my default method of using apache.. and webalizer sorts the logs/stats out perfectly for each vhost
pod Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Apache2 does make using vhosts really easy. Coupled with dyndns you can have up to five free domain names pointing at the same server, the key is using the ServerName directive. They will be dopey domain names like shacknet.nu but they're free. I have a fixed ip address at home with bethere.co.uk broadband and use vhosts to run several test sites for my live sites running of an old box...it's good stuff.
