Hi all, I have just sought clarification regarding the MPLC umbrella licence.

We do not need it as long as we show videos\DVDs as part of the curriculum. With the exception of Filmclub (licence for these DVDs paid for by lovefilm.com) we cannot show any DVDs for non curriculum\entertainment (end of term etc.) unless we pay a fee (schools £50 - £95 per year).

Isn't the MPLC a US body?

They are a member of FACT, but apart from that I can't find much more about them

Most LEA's have a copyright or legal expert - its worth trying to get hold of them for guidance...

I called up the MPLC, they clarified that as long as we use any video for curriculum use we are ok, we need do nothing.

We only need to pay if we use videos for entertainment e.g. placating children at the end of term.

If you have filmclub they pay for licence to show filmclub DVDs.
