6Foot2 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 My Student users cannot use Favourites in Internet Explorer [They get an error message like: "this action has been cancelled due to restrictions on this computer" or "prevented by a software restriction policy" I can't remember which one] I can't find where this restriction has been set [looked at Event Logs and looked at all of the Group Policies on the server which would affect students: No luck] I have tried adding various ADMs to the server and I have tried using scripts. ADMs are not understood by the server and rejected. Scripts appear to have no effect. I have tried setting the 'Favorites' setting in Group Policy but I can't find a setting that GP will accept. I have tried redirecting Favourites to: U:\Favourites %UserProfile%\Favourites and \\ServerName\UsersFoldersShare\Username\Cached\Favourites None of these settings worked. I would ideally like to use the GP redirected method if I could find the right setting to make it work. Does anyone else have this method of setting the Favourites working on their network? Thanks in advance.
DMcCoy Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) Odd, double post! Edited October 17, 2009 by DMcCoy
DMcCoy Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Oh, and If it is vista you may need to allow .lnk or .url as extensions so that they can be "run" as it were.
6Foot2 Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Ok. Redirection is out then: Clients are XP Pro: SP3.
actech Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 DaveP, Have a look at this thread. It's basically the same vbscript as what we do here but a lot neater. There is also a bit on making an .adm to do it but I haven't got around to trying that yet.
