Printer issues SOS!

Help! Pleeease!

 

So, half the printers in my school are working, half are not.

 

Here's what we know:

 

I've been setting them up on our DC (don't have a dedicated print server), all printers have been set up with a manual IP (172.25.0.100 - 111)

 

I can print to 5 out of 11 printers at the moment.

 

I can't ping those 6 printers that aren't printing.

 

Those printers are definitely plugged into a working network port on the correct network.

 

The manual IP settings i've put into the printer match the settings on similar printers that work (apart from the individual IP 172.25.0.1xx).

 

Anyone experienced similar problems?

Or any suggestions at all?

Ok have you tried plugging into the printer using a host, laptop or workstation, with a cross over cable or small hub placed next to it to make sure it is indeed all set up as you describe?

 

Is there a status page you can print from the printer to confirm the ip setup?

 

What make and model are the printers?

 

Do they all have internal network cards or are you using external print servers?

Haven't got a crossover or a hub spare at the moment annoyingly.

 

Status page says the IP is correct.

 

The one i'm most interested in getting to work is our HP Laserjet 4000

 

All the printers have jet direct network cards.

Can use a laptop in the RJ45 port that is normally used by the printer?

 

Also take the printer to a place which has a known good swtich and try pinging again.

I presume the netmask is ok on the printer?

 

Can you plug a workstation into the network point and then ping that just to make sure it's not a network issue?

As most network printers support some form of web interface these days, have you tried sticking their IP address into the address bar of a browser? This should at least prove the printer & network connection are ok
