Gatt Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Anyone implemented this yet? IF so how did it go? Im thinking of using it for September but would like to hear how it went - what problems there are, etc I have heard that it causes problems with Roaming Profiles, but I wont be using them so not a problem for me...
kingswood Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Talking work when on holiday? OK. Go on then. ;-) Yes- file screening seems to work for us- I slapped a ban on MP3/WMA on user areas as well as a block on saving EXE files and it has been working very well. Before the use of file screening we had something like 1800 MP3 files in student areas. Post file-screening we had....0. Zero. Zilch. So it *looks* like it will work fine--but the real test will come September. I would say give it a shot, and if it works you will be doing something proactive about the illegal saving of EXE and music files on user areas; if it doesn't work 100%, you are still being seen to be doing something about the illegal storage of these files. The trouble will come when staff demand that students be able to store files like this for "educational purposes". Blah. Have fun!
Gatt Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Yeah i can see the staff doing this - but IMHO that is what we have the Pupil Shared Area for!
