Dell 2100 Network Connection Problems

This has me stumped

 

I've bought 10 nice new Latitude 2100's, Five in Blue, Five in Green. Allegedly with all the same components.

 

First off I imaged them all from one of the Blue ones. The blue ones all hooked up to my managed wireless perfectly. The Green ones connected once, then failed to get DHCP again.

 

So after 10 mins of troubleshooting I did a quick build on one of the Green Laptops. Connected fine. Then I imaged the rest of the Green ones with this image. All 5 have exactly the same problem. The internal network card works fine.

 

I can use the full dell solution for the wireless card and 5 connect perfectly, but I can't do this as I have things to run pre login that are important - basically windows needs to be managing this with pre connection.

 

Any Ideas? DHCP is running normally - and the 'identical' blue laptops have no issues at all!

Hi Brad,

 

I fixed the problem - but still have no idea as to what caused it, or why it's fixed!

 

I image using WDS.

 

I decided to go top down on the troubleshooting and that didn't do much either - Made sure that all of my switches and managed wireless were working and rebooted them. Restarted DHCP, DNS etc just to be sure.

 

In the end I managed to get them working - I found out an old netgear WAP from my cupboard, and attempted a connection from the Green 2100's. It worked perfectly!

 

I then attempted to connect to the managed wireless again - and it worked! - I still have no explanation for it - DHCP offers were being made but not accepted by the Green Machines!

 

The managed wireless is DLink kit - I can give model numbers if needed -

 

All 10 look very nice on their new trolley :-).

Are you using the DELL trolley?
