I have recently installed a brand fresh version SIMS onto a server. the March 2009. i have successfully set up everything but when i try to login to SIMS it doesnt let me with the following info username : sysman password : password Any Suggestions? First thing would be to check you connect.ini (c:\program files\sims\sims .net) Next would be try de-attaching, re-attach the database (look on support for details) After that there is a long list, but it starts with, what version is, how did you install it etc etc etc
massiv3 Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) when i first attached the database a message came up saying that the SIMS Database was successfully attached. then when i tried to login using the username and password sysman : password it wouldnt let me in. the login errror comes up saying username/password incorrect Edited July 1, 2009 by massiv3
dhicks Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Any Suggestions? Try with a password of "abcd" instead. Otherwise, you can reset the sysman password via a database tool. I can't remember how (search Capita SupportNet, you might find the answer there), but I seem to remember simply calling a stored procedure in the database. It was called something obvious along the lines of "reset sysman password" or similar. -- David Hicks

Sorry, I thought there was some handy command-line tool, but I think I may have simply been thinking of running the stored procedure via the command line. You want (possibly) to run the stored procedure "sims.db_p_reset_sysman_password" on your database, which you should be able to do from your server's MSSQL management console (the "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio" or whatever it's called). -- David Hicks
massiv3 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 update i have done the reset sysman password query on the server. once i ran the query a popup came up to say 1 line(s) affected checked the main conect.ini file in S:\SIMS to check its all ok. thats fine. tried logging into SIMS with sysman : password still no luck

I got similar error messages to you when running SIMS on Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2005 - when installing SQL Server 2005 I'd missed out the required Windows Server 2008 Internet Services components. -- David Hicks

dhicks Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Tried User: Manager Pass: abcd ? I think the "incorrect username/password" error is misleading - there's something more fundamentally wrong. I first installed SQL Server 2005 onto our Server 2008 VM from two CDs, stopping the procedure halfway through to mount the next CD, and I forgot to set up all the components that SQL Server 2005 needs to run properly. I then got "incorrect username/password" errors, no matter what I did to try and reset the sysman (or any other) password. Something is hosed, good and proper. A thought... are you running the SIMS client on the server or from a workstation? If from a workstation, remember you have to create a firewall exception on your server to allow SIMS to use the SQL database (yes, each SIMS client uses its own SQL connection to your SQL server, hence you need an appropriate number of SQL Server CALs if using SQL Server (the Express edition should be fine)). -- David Hicks
massiv3 Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 ive ran sims workstation from both the server and a client. both the server and client have got the firewalls switched off. also tried the manager : abcd and manager : password both show incorrect username/password
