Software "monitoring"

Hey guys,

 

is there any software (pref. free) which monitors what software requires access to? Currently we have software which works for teachers/admins but not for pupils. The software is Pinnacle, and admins/teachers are allowed to add MP3s into the timeline of the project. But for pupils, it doesn't. It doesn't come up with any messages, nothing in the Event Viewer, just nothing. As if it's not doing something.

 

 

Any help would be most appreciated.

regmon and filemon are always a good place to start.

procmon is the "grown up" version of filemon/procmon - combines both and more besides.

 

Almost certainly, you've given rights to teachers which pupils don't have (are they in power users?)

 

Run procmon and set the filter to only monitor the pinnacle process. Get its name from task manager or from procexp (another superb sysinternals tool) which will also tell you child processes of the parent.

 

Look for "access denied" results and you should find what you need.

Well I think I've sorted out the problem.

 

They need access to write to a specific folder. Took hours to work out the problem, takes seconds to fix the problem
