stu Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 when trying to boot a laptop i am, receiving a error message saying 'program autochk failed to load' then BSOD (c000021a) , so have run HDD memory and both passed tests. so i am trying to restore system files using the WIN XP CD but when ever this loads(which it sometimes doesn't and just goes back to the BIOS screen) I receive the message ' file \i386\halaacpi.dll could not be loaded the error code is 7...' any help would be great! cheers
Jamo Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 There is an article here about forcing a HAL DLL to be loaded. How to force a Hardware Abstraction Layer during an upgrade or an installation of Windows XP I have also sometimes put this down to a hard drive controller. Try changing the IDE or SATA type in the BIOS some newer boards are a bit funny with the old XP Cds.
stu Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 tryed that and it returned 'isapnp.sys is corrupted'
Jamo Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 How far into the setup does it get? Is it possible you have a damaged CD? 1
