SimpleSi Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 A few months ago I had to quickly buy a new server for a school and got a nice cheap one from CPLTD A few people said I needed a separate raid card as the built in one wasn't up to much and would cause probs. So Simon got me a separate raid card but I didn't bother installing it as just needed to get the server back up and running ASAP. Now I've come along to install it with the extra sata drive I bought and I've basicallly no idea how it supposed to connect and even if the card is the right one for my sata drives The card has these funny wide sata sort of looking connectors on it (but too wide for normal sata connectors) Googling seems to indicate that it is an new type of scsi/sata card ????? Have I got the wrong card? Is there scsi/sata adaptor cables????? Help please !!!! regards Simon
western Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 It will probably be for hot plug drives which are usually SAS. This is what happens when you dont buy stuff of us Si LOL!!!
Soulfish Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 You've almost certainly got a SAS backplane connector on the card. Used to reduce the number of cables in a server. You'll need a breakout cable like: SAS to SATA Breakout Cable (Straight) - 4x SAS (SFF-8470) to (4) SATA (first one I found on google!). Hope that helps
SimpleSi Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 @soulfish the pictures dont look like anything that would connect to my card - the card connectors seem very similar to sata but about twice as wide. @western regards Simon
