Joomla AD intregration???

When I built our current site (asp) i did so with the intention to integrate with the AD. This massively helped get staff using it as they didnt have to register or remember a different password etc

 

since i have added different areas protected via the AD.

 

After spending many hours coding the site, and being very happy with the result, i am looking at a redesign, and decided a change may be worth it.

 

So i have downloaded both the standard and edugeek joomla package. and am very impressed.

 

BUTTTTT i want AD intregration. I guess i would do this in the same way if i installed php on to IIS.

 

i gave my self a headache yday when trying get this to work. so last night i read up and went the WAMP way and all is working joomla side of things etc any ideas folks???

looks like this plugin needs you to be running joomla on linux! arrrg

 

but all in all looks a really good system. my 2 problems are unfamiliarity (which obviously is not a problem more a time thing) and the AD link. dont really want to run it as a virtual machine on the webserver seems a faf. although i do want to getinto virtualisation.

 

has anyone seen heard or know of a wamp compatable ad auth method for joomla???

Why dont you use the standard LDAP auth plugin??

 

THats what i use and my users login with there ad user account.

Im running on a windows 2003 standard server which is running xampp.

I have read that using LDAP over http could potentially expose login credentials, thereby allowing the interceptor to use the intercepted credentials to access private areas of the network. I am curious as to what others think about this........

well it all depends on how well you lock down your network..

 

Do you allow people to install software on your computers?

Do you allow them to run applications from USB sticks?

 

PS im only using joomla on an internal network (intranet) so the only risk is internal staff. It is not viewable from the net.

I see........This makes sense. Since the UN and PW are only passed within the LAN, there really isn't a concern, eh? Our internal site is available on the Web through https and AD now (self-signed certificate). But it is a Frontpage site. We are considering moving to a CMS. Firefox and IE warn users when a certficate is self-signed. In FF, one can permanently add an exception, but one cannot do this in IE. Unless...I am now thinking that in our IE installation we could make our internal site a trusted site. This would prevent the widespread panic that occurs when a warning appears. Thanks for explaining.
