AlexB Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Okay, tearing my hair out here. I use kixtart for my logon scripts. On Friday at about lunchtime all logon scripts specified in each user's AD container stopped working (The one next to the profile and home directory setting) I put in a quick fix vbscript in the GPO and these run, however, they ain't the lovely crafted kixtart scripts Aside from not having my preferred script I am very concerned as to what might have caused this. Anyone got ANY ideas? I have some thoughts/fears myself, but would rather not suggest lest it direct ppls thinking. I have manually redefined the kix32.exe/wkix32.exe call for some users and tried again, no joy. The only setting I changed in GPO prior to this was run legacy scripts hidden which I enabled. It was also one of the first things I changed back, but didn't help. I hope someone has come across time before cause I am running out of ideas very fast! Oh yes, if run manually after logon the script runs fine for all users. Thanks in advance AlexB
FN-GM Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 have you put the kix script into group policy? does it work then?
AlexB Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 I can put it it there, but I'm worried as to the cause of this rather than a workaround (currently )
FN-GM Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Well if it works in there we can look at the cause. What path did you put in the one in the individual accounts?
AlexB Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 (edited) Yes it does work in admin temps->system->logons (it roughly that ) On the invid accounts I tried full path of both \\DOMAIN\netlogon and \\PDC\Netlogon (previous defined as kix32.exe with no path, this is still the way the admin network is defined and that works with kix) Also tried specifying the script kix is to run and not specifiying (its the default kixtart.kix, so never need specifying) It doesn't work on any account, including the domain admin account which only has the very basic default domain policy applied to it in the gpo (as it isn't in OUs) I've just thought (advantage of going home and ignoring it for a while!) I haven't tried just a batch script that does nothing but trigger a display so I can see if that works.... I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks Edited April 27, 2009 by AlexB adding a bit
AlexB Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 So, the joys of a new day... this morning logon scripts work, but about 40% of my users are not picking up GPO settings.... time to despair..
AlexB Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 So it looks like one of my DCs was corrupted, joy joy, at least taking it out of the equation seems to have set things right...
