Help with weird DNS issue

We have changed over to a new DNS server. Every time that server gets restarted however, the record for the OLD server is changed to show the IP address for the new server.

 

ie. old server has IP ending .20, new has IP ending .22 - after restart forward lookup zone records for both show .22 address

 

I am no expert at DNS. Please can anyone help? I feel it's something left on the old server as the event log shows DNS server events still...

I can only imagine what you're seeing is an occurrence whereby the old dns server is answering a request because the other one isn't around.

 

Is this from a client? - If so, can you check ipconfig /all and see whether the old server is still in there?

Not from a client that I know of. The record on the DNS server just changes when it restarts.....

If the actual record is changing in DNS can you check the Zone to see what DNS servers it has allowed to update it etc.

 

That being said, the old server is online and you see DNS Events? Uninstall the DNS Role from it and it should tidy up after itself if it's using Active Directory Integration which is causing the updates to go back over?

 

Ofc, I'd exercise a high level of caution especially if the old server is serving clients.

Will check zone. We have already taken the DNS role off the old server

Have looked at DNS security settings today and everything looks OK - domain and enterprise admins only.

 

Anyone have any more ideas?
