Site Loading too slow

Ive had the Joomla Edugeek package running for a few months now. The old one ie 1.0. Very happy with whole of site but the homepage takes an age to load up. Anyone got any suggestions to improve the site load

I had a similar problem with joomla this is what i did.

 

1. Install a clean install.
   
2. Remove the Database from the new one and repalce it with the new one
   
3. Move any other files over
