School Exchange Server & Contacts

Hello all,

 

Just wondering - those schools with exchange. How do you deal with the Default GAL and other address lists showing for students?

 

We've only just got Exchange 2007 and we're still working round it - the main concern that was raised is the fact we don't want students to see (preferably) any address book apart from their own personal contact list.

 

I'm aware you can modify permissions in ADSI Edit - so that a AD group doesn't have certain permissions, but blocking access to the GAL creates errors and such. Just thought I'd post in here to get other people's methods, if there are any.

I used a tool called ADModify to just change the default OU that exchange searches for when searching the GAL.

 

You just then do the same for every student account in one bulk change.

 

Job done.

 

Do a google search I cant recall the exact setting to change as it was done last summer.

May be different to you but on an RM Exchange set up they recommend to restrict the students groups from accessing the GAL then to create a new GAL for the students with the filters for only those you want them to see.
