mossj Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 *simple question... i think How do you assign a user, so they can only admin a certain section and/or catagory?
polaris Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Do you have community builder? Or using the basic user management page? CB
mossj Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 i was hoping the standard package could do it? do i have to install anouthr ext? if so which?
polaris Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Hi, Its quite a complicated thing to get your head around but community builder is one way, this is a powerful extension to Joomla and is one of the recommended extensions. You can basically create groups and then when the user logs in they can see categories and sections that are visible only to those groups. There are some other content management extensions that are more specific, but as community builder adds so much more functionality its a worth while thing to learn. CB 1
mossj Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Thats one thing I'm going to look at, but not really what i was after..... For example at our school we have a Sixthformer that releases/writes the news articles, just so its one thing off my mind. In our old CMS I just gave her account and gave that account admin to the Latest News. Tought her a bit about what can/can't be published and how to do special formatting and then I stopped having to be pestered about the Latest News. Can something simular be done with this one, I assume admin rights would be given to the Latest News section and all it catagorys. I would also like to get users admining there own catagorys/pages (HR manager for the vacancies pages, HODS for there department page etc). This would require them to edit articles rather than just publish a new one
polaris Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Hi, Yes, I think you can do that in CB. It's not intuitive by any means. You need to find a dark quite place to read the manual. Chris
