More info on the up and coming ICTTech mark

Hi Guy's/Gal's,

 

Thought that I may as well post the updates of the up and coming ICTTech mark by the ECUK, as well as a follow-up on this post.

 

The ICT Technician Standard (available at: ICTTech - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN) describes the competences you need to be able to demonstrate in order to apply for ICTTech. It also offers examples of the kinds of evidence that you might need.

 

1. Your professional body can provide you with further advice on which qualifications and what sort of experience is required. There is no exam involved, but some professional bodies will interview applicants or visit them in their workplace.

 

2. Registering as an ICTTech can be very straightforward especially if you hold an Advanced or Modern Apprenticeship in an ICT practitioner, not user, area.

 

3. Other level 3 (6 in Scotland) ICT (practitioner) qualifications may also help your application as, for example, may certificates issued for attending training courses.

 

4. All applicants must be working at a technician level and evidence of your working experience must be

provided whether or not you have any relevant qualifications. Guidance on technician level can be found in section C of the ICT Technician Standard (available at: ICTTech - INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN).

 

5. Because working experience is seen as so important, you are welcome to apply for ICTTech registration

if you do not have any relevant qualifications. Your application will be considered on an individual basis and may take a little longer. You are more likely to be asked to interview or to undergo a workplace assessment.

When I contacted the BCS about it back in August (approx) 2008, there wasn't alot of info about this and the BCS was under the impression that it was more for engineers. I e-mailed them about this again and got this response:

 

Thank you for your email.

 

BCS will be meeting with the ECUK in the New Year to discuss the introduction of this membership grade. It is hoped that BCS will be able to offer this grade within the first half of next year.

 

As soon as arrangements have been finalised, appropriate publicity campaigns will be arranged and full details will be available on our website.

If this goes ahead with the BCS, you'll have the option to go for the various regular & professional membership grades as well as the numerous ECUK statuses and/or BCS own CITP status*

People want an industry standard for a tech? A body that you need to be a member of to say you know your stuff? Here it is ... I wonder what implications it will have on BSF and outsourcing.

So we've got the ICTTech (when it is released) which is equivalent to the EngTech, the CITP which is equivalent to the CEng, all we need now is an IT version of the IEng
